On our little mini-holiday in Vancouver, BC (if you’re paying attention/ extremely anal retentive you’ll know that we’re only 15 minutes away), we went for one dinner to Red Robins restaurant. They are very kid-friendly with lots of vintage decor, and the background noise that can successfully drown out the kids’ arguing over the straws.
After the waitress admitted to having no knowledge of an “allergy menu”, she retrieved the manager for us. He showed us the menu and said that nearly anything can be made gluten free. My first thought? This guy doesn’t know what he’s talking about then. He said that the burgers had no additives and were 100% beef. My thoughts? Right! (Okay, I’m a wee bit pessimistic.) And then he proceded to explain that the only spices go on after the grill and that it was this seasoning salt that is on the table. Apparently he could see my skepticism. We checked the ingredients – it was Gluten Free. Wow. That’s a VERY good sign, no?
Skip forward a while – we ordered the french fries (they have their own fryer), and he had a burger. When it came, the manager brought it out. It was HOT. and it came out earlier than our meals. (also a good sign that it was prepared separately). Then the manager, proceeded to explain that he had retrieved all the ingredients from the cooler so none of them had been in the hands of the short cooks/ prep lines. Can you believe that?
I’m UBER impressed!
And that was that. I give it a 5 asterisks out of 5. (Cause I don’t have stars on my laptop.)
